Beverly
Kopf received an EMMY Award for writing the hit ABC talk show
"The View." She helped develop the smart, off-the-cuff
conversation that has made the show so successful. As creator
of ‘Hot Topics,’ Kopf produced an exciting opportunity for
women to be part of the national conversation on a host of
issues. For a Barbara Walters segment on Matthew Shepard,
she received a GLAAD Media Award.
Since leaving The View, Kopf has continued
her association with Meredith Vieira. She wrote for her when
Vieira hosted the 2000 Academy Award pre-show, and wrote and
produced the "Intimate Portrait" wraps for Lifetime
Television, hosted by Vieira. Under her TVgals, Inc. banner,
she co-wrote "Bravo Profiles" on Salma Hayek and
Julie Taymor. Considered one of their most outstanding shows,
The Taymor Profile was submitted by Bravo for a Peabody Award.
She also co-wrote two one-hour documentaries for the Court
TV series "The System." She was Kathy Hilton’s writer
for the reality series, " So You Want To Be A Hilton," which
aired on NBC this summer.
Under her TVgals banner, Kopf has recently
written and co-produced a feature-length documentary that
celebrates the lives of six everyday heroes in the GLBT community.
The film, "Be Real," made possible by Stolichnaya Vodka, had
its premiere at the Sundance Film Festival in January, 2006
and is now screening at major film festivals across the country,
including New York, San Francisco, and Miami.
Under TVgals, Kopf is also co-producing the
behind-the-scenes DVD and TV special for the much-anticipated
Sony Pictures musical drama, "Across the Universe."
Directed by Tony-Award-winning Julie Taymor and incorporating
original performances of many of the Beatles classic hits,
it will be released in 2007.
Also under TVgals, Inc., Kopf co-produced
over 26 hours of programming at The Omega Institute for a
start-up network called Wisdom Television. "Soul Stories,"
a series on personal transformation, helped brand the network
and remains one of Wisdom’s signature programs.
Prior to The View, Kopf enjoyed a successful
career in Hollywood as a Segment Producer and Talent Executive
where she conceived, booked, wrote, and produced hundreds
of celebrity, cultural, and issue-oriented segments. She also
helped develop talk shows for Cindy Crawford, Stephanie Miller,
Tammy Faye Baker and Mo Gaffney.
For four years, Kopf worked with Maria Shriver
where she was one of a small creative team that produced innovative,
topical and award-winning specials for NBC News, including
"First Person with Maria Shriver." Other credits
include: Good Morning America, CBS Morning News, Entertainment
Tonight, Dateline NBC, A.M. Los Angeles, Win, Lose or Draw,
Totally Hidden Video, Mad TV, and two on-line projects for
Microsoft, Inc.
In association with Gay Rosenthal Productions,
she served as Talent Executive on a number of Lifetime specials,
including "Idolized, Envied and Adored: the Age of the Female
Icon," produced in conjunction with The New York Times.
Also with GRP, she wrote Lifetime "Intimate Portraits"
on Vanessa Williams and Bette Midler.
Kopf graduated magna cum laude from
Brooklyn College and did graduate work at The University of
Michigan. She is a member of The Writers Guild of America,
East and resides in New York City with her partner of thirteen
years and their cats, Melrose and Pretzel. Kopf’s first autobiographical
essay, "Oy Vay the Kids are Gay" was published in
August 2005 in an anthology entitled Mentsh.
